Located just outside of Myrtleford, in the gourmet region of the high country, Cortes Cottage offers a tranquil country escape. Set in one of Australia’s oldest operating Walnut farms 'Valley Nut Groves' and with views of Mount Buffalo the cottage is an ideal place to relax and unwind. If relaxation is not a top priority, the Ski Fields of Mount Hotham and Falls Creek are only a one hour drive away, and with numerous wineries and boutique farms close by, Cortes Cottage is an ideal place from which to explore the region.

The cottage is located only 15 minutes from historic Beechworth, which has numerous cafes, restaurants, bars and historical sites. You can explore a little further and find yourself in Bright which has further gourmet food options.

The region is home to some of Victoria’s best inland fishing, as well as having numerous bushwalking and mountain biking tracks. The cottage is also a 5 minute walk from the Ovens river, which is only accessible through the property. Here you can enjoy swimming, fishing and kayaking safe in the knowledge that there will be no-one to disturb you. For the keen golfer there is a challenging and well laid out golf course only 10 minutes away, or you could venture a little further to tee off at the Porepunkah golf course.

The cottage was recently renovated to a very high standard, and although rustic in appearance, it has a luxurious modern interior, with all of the modern conveniences that you would expect from a boutique country escape. The period weatherboard cottage has an inviting north facing polished concrete verandah where you can sit, relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air. It is the perfect setting to cook and dine together, either with friends or alone, while enjoying some of the regions wine. If it is too cold outside then why not sit by the original brick fireplace and warm up.

The cottage is a great place to stay if attending weddings, anniversaries or other events in the area. We will also be more than happy to provide you with recommendations and advice about the region. If we are around, we are more than happy to give you a tour of the Walnut Farm and its processing plant. So why not come and enjoy this wonderful comfortable and quiet retreat. The lounge is quaint, modern, comfortable and relaxing with a 3-seater sofa and a log fire and split system for heating and cooling. Wood will be provided for the first two days of your stay; afterwards you are welcome to collect wood from around the property.

The unique polished concrete floor bathroom has a Victorian claw foot roll top bath, and a shower with brass rainfall showerhead.

Soft cotton towels and toiletries are supplied.

It also features a 40” Full HD LCD TV and a media hard-drive with over 600 movies and documentaries for your entertainment.

Books and board games for guests wishing to absorb the cottage ambience will be provided.

New locks on all doors and windows.
